Omg! I never thought about the fact that you actually paint your stuff by hand! That is super amazing! Would you be willing to describe how you draw out your pages? As in, how do you start a page?
Step 1: I stare at a blinding white sheet of blank paper. The only perfect drawing is the one you don’t start. I try to accept that there will be many mistakes, but also console myself in the knowledge that my audience will only see the result and not the initial plan.
Step 2: A rough pencil Sketch.
Step 3: I draw over the pencil lines with a brush and waterproof ink.
Step 4: I erase the pencil lines and then use a waterbrush pen and a portable watercolor kit to fill things in and give it a little color.
Friday, Cassini will dive into Saturn’s atmosphere and put an end to its nearly 20 year mission. Over those years we learned an incredible amount of information about Saturn, its rings, and its many moons. During the grand finale, Cassini will continue to send back information about Saturns atmosphere before burning up like a shooting star.
A new oil painting has just arrived in what may be the world’s most clandestine art gallery — the fine arts collection at the headquarters of the Central Intelligence Agency.
This commissioned work isn’t your typical still life; the tableau is a busy clutter of gear — photos, blueprints, weapons and ammunition.
CIA museum director Toni Hiley says this painting — the 21st in the collection — is purposely complex. A Contingency for Every Action shows artifacts from major covert actions going back to World War II. “It’s what we call an Easter egg painting,” Hiley says. She calls it an “Easter egg,” because nestled within are little hints from missions that are still classified.
Unless you’re a CIA officer, you’ll probably never get to see the painting in person. Which might make you wonder: Why does the CIA have an art gallery at all?
